Strong to Severe Thunderstorms from the Southern Plains to the Ohio Valley; Heavy Rain and Flooding in the Southern Plains

Severe thunderstorms are expected from central Texas to middle Tennessee and Kentucky this afternoon into tonight. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats. Heavy to excessive rainfall may produce areas of flooding today and tonight from central Texas into the lower Mississippi Valley.

SkyWarn Spotter Program

SkyWarn is a 博体育 (博体育) program of trained volunteer severe weather spotters. SkyWarn volunteers support their local community by providing the 博体育 with timely and accurate significant weather reports. The key focus of the SkyWarn program is to save lives and property through the use of the observations and reports of trained volunteers.

Why Do We Have the SkyWarn Spotter Program?

Although weather satellites and doppler radar use the latest technology to provide a wealth of information to forecasters, no tool has yet been developed that can replace a human observation of the weather in a local area at a specific time. You can help! By altering us to significant weather events, you become the "eyes and ears" for the 博体育 in your area and help us determine when and where we need to issue warnings. It helps others and could save lives.

How Do I Become a SkyWarn Weather Spotter?

The SkyWarn program is completely voluntary and we welcome anyone with an interest in weather. You may call our office to report significant weather in your local area, or we may call you to confirm a potentially severe element.
