April of 2025 was a roller coaster type of month, with cool and wet periods at the beginning and middle of the month, along with warm, dry and windy periods in between. This also brought increased fire danger to the snow free areas for much of April. For the month as a whole, above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation was experienced across south central and southeast Colorado.  The above normal temperatures and early melting of the generally below normal seasonal snowpack has the snowpack in the Rio Grande Basin at 19 percent of median at the end of April, while the Arkansas basin snowpack was at  42 percent of median at the end of April. 

The following graphics depict monthly temperature and precipitation departures from normal across the state for the past month of April.

The preliminary average temperature in Alamosa for the past month of April was 43.0 degrees. This is 0.4 degrees above normal and makes April of 2025 the 30th warmest April on record. This remains well behind the warmest April of 1946, when the average monthly temperature was 47.3 degrees. The average April maximum temperature in Alamosa was 62.0 degrees, which is 1.8 degrees above normal. The average April minimum temperature in Alamosa was 24.0 degrees, which is 1.0 degrees below normal.  Alamosa recorded 0.62 inches of precipitation through the month of April. This is 0.05 inches above normal and makes April of 2025 tied as the 32 wettest April on record, which is well behind the 3.06 inches of precipitation recorded in April of 1942.  Alamosa recorded 7.8 inches of snow in April. This is 4.3 inches above normal and makes April of 2025 the 19th snowiest on record, well behind the 17.0 inches recorded in April of 1938.   This brings the 2024-2025 seasonal snowfall in Alamosa to 30.5 inches, which is 3.4 inches above normal. Alamosa set 3 daily record high temperatures as well as  a daily record lowest maximum temperature in the month of April.  (ALS POR: 1932-2024)    

The preliminary average temperature in Colorado Springs for the past month of April was 49.1 degrees. This is 1.6 degrees above normal and makes April of 2025 tied as the 20th warmest April on record. This is well behind the warmest April of 1981, when the average monthly temperature was 53.8 degrees. The April average maximum temperature in Colorado Springs was 63.1 degrees, which is 2.1 degrees above normal. The average April minimum temperature in Colorado Springs was 35.2 degrees, which is 1.2 degrees above normal. Colorado Springs recorded 0.45 inches of precipitation through the month of April. This is 1.00 inches below normal and makes April of 2025 tied as the 26th driest on record, which is well above the driest April's of 2022 and 1964 when only 0.01 inches of precipitation was recorded. Colorado Springs recorded 3.0 inches of snow in April, which is 2.5 inches below normal. This brings the 2024-2025 seasonal snowfall total in Colorado Springs to 48.1 inches, which is 16.2 inches above normal.  Colorado Springs set a daily record high temperature in the month of April. (COS POR: 1894-2024)      

The preliminary average temperature in Pueblo for the past month of April was 52.8 degrees. This is 1.5 degrees above normal and makes April of 2025 tied as the 32nd warmest on record. This remains well behind the warmest March of 1981, when the average monthly temperature was 59.6 degrees. The average April maximum temperature in Pueblo was 69.6 degrees, which is 2.3 degrees above normal. The average April minimum temperature in Pueblo was 36.0 degrees, which is 0.7 degrees above normal. Pueblo recorded 0.64 inches of precipitation through the month of April. This is 0.93 inches below  normal and makes April of 2025, the 50th driest April on record.  Pueblo recorded 1.9 inches of snow in April, which is 1.5 inches below normal. This brings the 2024-2025 seasonal snowfall total in Pueblo to 33.6 inches, which is 5.3 inches above normal. Pueblo set a daily record high temperature in the month of April. (PUB POR: 1888-2024)  

Looking ahead into May in Alamosa, the average high and low temperatures of 64 degrees and 30 degrees on May 1st, warm to 76 degrees and 37 degrees by the end of the month.  The average temperature for the month of May in Alamosa is 51.7 degrees.  Alamosa averages 0.60 inches of precipitation and 0.8 inches of snow through the month of May.           

In Colorado Springs, the average high and low temperatures of 65 degrees and 38 degrees on May 1st, warm to 77 degrees and 48 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of May in Colorado Springs is 57.1 degrees.  Colorado Springs averages 1.99 inches of precipitation and 0.6 inches of snow through the month of May.        

In Pueblo, the average high and low temperatures of 71 degrees and 40 degrees on May 1st, warm to 83 degrees and 51 degrees by the end of the month.  The average temperature for the month of May in Pueblo is 61.4 degrees. Pueblo averages 1.57 inches of precipitation through the month of May.
