Strong to Severe Thunderstorms from the Southern Plains to the Ohio Valley; Heavy Rain and Flooding in the Southern Plains

Severe thunderstorms are expected from central Texas to middle Tennessee and Kentucky this afternoon into tonight. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats. Heavy to excessive rainfall may produce areas of flooding today and tonight from central Texas into the lower Mississippi Valley.

Above normal temperatures continue, with highs this afternoon in the 70s and lows tonight into Saturday morning in the 40s.
Mostly sunny today with high temperatures around 10 degrees above normal. Clouds increase tonight which will help keep low temperatures in the low to mid 40s. Cooler through the weekend and into early next week. Temperatures will trend warmer later next week.
A storm system will impact Northern and Central Nevada Saturday through Monday, resulting in periods of valley rain and mountain snow. The majority of this valley rain will fall Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. Valley rain could be heavy at times Saturday and Saturday night.
A few strong thunderstorms are possible throughout Northern and Central Nevada from 12 PM PDT Saturday afternoon until 8 PM PDT Saturday evening. The primary thunderstorm hazards will be intense rainfall rates, leading to localized flooding, dangerous cloud to ground lighting strikes, and wind gusts near 45 mph.
High pressure sits over the region today with peak wind speeds in the 10 to 15 mph range. Southerly winds increase on Saturday, with the strongest winds expected across Central Nevada where gusts of 30 to 40 mph are likely. Winds on Sunday shift to a Northerly direction with gusts generally in the 15 to 25 mph range, though slightly higher winds are expected across Northern Humboldt County.
