Strong to Severe Thunderstorms from the Southern Plains to the Ohio Valley; Heavy Rain and Flooding in the Southern Plains

Severe thunderstorms are expected from central Texas to middle Tennessee and Kentucky this afternoon into tonight. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats. Heavy to excessive rainfall may produce areas of flooding today and tonight from central Texas into the lower Mississippi Valley.

Overview

This page gives an overview of the 博体育 plans for adding GOES-R products to the NOAAPort Satellite Broadcast Network (SBN), including the products themselves, pre-launch tests, product assignments to SBN channels, and product formats. The SBN will carry a subset of GOES-R products most relevant to 博体育 field offices. The network will not carry all products that are available from GOES-R. For example, GOES-R space weather products are not planned for dissemination via the SBN. Also, certain ABI imagery channels may not be included on the SBN. NOAA will be providing a broader set of GOES-R products via the GOES-R Rebroadcast (GRB) service and from its Satellite and Information Services group (i.e., NESDIS):

Current plans call for certain GOES-R products to be carried on the SBN, on the following channels:

GRE and GRW channel - These two channels have been established to carry GOES-R imagery products from either the East (GRE) or West (GRW) position. Eventually, it is envisioned that GOES-R and GOES-S will occupy the GOES East and GOES West positions. The SBN's GOES-R imagery suite is commonly referred to as "Sectorized Cloud and Moisture Imagery (SCMI)." This refers to sectorized ABI instrument imagery. Tests are currently underway which entail simulated GOES-R SCMI on the GRE and GRW channels. Additional details about the GOES-R SCMI appear in documents referenced in the "Further Information" section, below.

NMC/博体育TG - Various GOES-R derived products (in general, non-imagery products) will likely be added to this SBN channel. Some possible candidates include Derived Motion Winds (sometimes also referred to as Atmospheric Wind Vectors or High Density Winds), Vertical Temperature and Water Vapor Soundings (Profiles), and Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) products.

EXP - This experimental channel will send test or experimental GOES-R products. Tests are currently underway with simulated derived L2 products. As this is an experimental channel, products on this channel could be added or removed on short notice. Once the operational viability and forecaster usage patterns of these experimental products are assessed, these products will likely be migrated to another distribution channel.

Time Frame for Addition of GOES-R Products to SBN - It is anticipated that actual GOES-R products will be added to the SBN approximately 3-6 months after GOES-R launch. For the latest GOES-R launch schedule, please refer to the "Flyout Schedule" on the GOES-R web page (see link below).
