Severe Thunderstorms and Possible Flooding Through This Weekend in the Central U.S.

Severe thunderstorms are forecast through this weekend along a slow moving cold front and secondary storm system that will impact areas from the southern Plains to the Great Lakes. Large hail and isolated damaging wind gusts are the main threats with these storms along with a risk for heavy to excessive rainfall which could bring flooding.

A Tornado Watch is in effect through 4 AM Saturday for western North Texas including Cooke, Montague, Jack, Young, Stephens, and Palo Pinto Counties. Scattered hail up to 2 inches, wind gusts up to 70 mph, and a couple of tornadoes will be possible.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for the following counties: Comanche, Hamilton, Mills, Eastland, and Erath until 7 am. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats, but we can't rule out a tornado or two.
Multiple rounds of showers and storms are expected through Sunday with heavy rain and minor flooding possible across parts of western North Texas Saturday night through Sunday morning. Rainfall totals will generally range from 0.1 to 1 inch across Central and North Texas, but 2 to 4 inches is possible in northwest Texas. Isolated amounts over 4" are possible in northwest Texas. A Flood Watch has been issued from 1 AM Saturday through 1 PM Sunday for Cooke, Montague, Jack, and Young counties.
A few sprinkles are possible across North Texas this afternoon, with scattered storms expected tonight across northwestern North Texas. A few storms may be severe with large hail and damaging winds.
A front will stall across North Texas on Saturday, with numerous showers and storms expected along and near the front. A few storms could be strong or severe, with large hail and damaging winds possible mainly on Saturday morning.
Showers and storms will become more widespread on Saturday night across western North Texas, and some storms may become strong or severe with large hail and damaging winds. Heavy rain and flooding will also be possible. Storms will spread eastward on Sunday but decrease in intensity before ending by midday.
