Heavy to Excessive Rainfall in the Southeast U.S.; Critical Fire Weather in the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest

A slow-moving storm system will continue to produce widespread heavy showers and thunderstorms which may bring excessive rainfall and flooding as it tracks across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions today into Wednesday. Gusty winds and dry fuels under potential record setting temperatures will support widespread critical fire weather in the northern Plains and Upper Midwest today.

Hot weather continues today, then big changes are in store for the remainder of the week. A cool and wet weather system is expected to impact our region Tuesday through Thursday, with widespread rain and mountain snow possible. The weather pattern will remain active through next weekend. Monitor the forecast if you have outdoor plans.
Warm temperatures will bring snowmelt to area mountains resulting in strong rises to streams and creeks. While not likely at this time, minor flooding of smaller streams and creeks is possible. Use extra caution recreating on or near waterways today and early this week.
